Tarot of Famous Witches

The Tarot Deck features 78 cards of the Major and Minor Arcana, represented by Famous Witches from History and Fiction. Including Stevie Nicks, Baba Yaga, Pamela Coleman-Smith, Florence Welch and Joan of Arc.

This tarot deck is a tribute to the witches throughout history who have found strength in their differences when society has shunned them, and the stories and characters in fiction and folklore who have been inspired by them! It was successfully funded through Kickstarter which can be found here.

The witches I've chosen are from history, folklore and fiction, the past and the present.

They are multifaceted beings; they’re messy, sometimes calculated. They can also be benevolent, forgiving creatures. Some are simply people throughout history who have been victimised by these stereotypes and are now immortalised as a witch.

Their aim in this deck is to transcend what notions society has of a person’s age, gender, sexuality… These witches aren’t to be judged purely on appearance.

Each card comes complete with descriptions of its witch’s powers and story, and how that is represented by their assigned tarot card in the accompanying guidebook.

The Major Arcana

All 22 cards in the Major Arcana are included in this tarot deck. We’ve got the modern-day witch Kiki (Kiki’s Delivery Service) depicting The World, to Carrie as The Hermit from the classic Stephen King novel.

In folklore, we have the revered Hecate from Greek Mythology, who represents The Moon. Alongside the original Witch from the myths of old, Aradia, fittingly as The Magician.

Then for our historical witches, known either for their practice or how they were tried, we have Joan of Arc representing the Strength card as well as Anne Boleyn as the High Priestess.

The Minor Arcana

This features the suits Athames, Pentacles, Wands and Chalices, with some new faces of witches depicting the court cards of each suit.

The Card Backs

The card backs feature some of the elements of the Minor Arcana to represent a Witch's tools of the Athames, Pentacles, Wands and Chalices. With a reversible design, there's no knowing if you'll get an upright or reversed version of your card!

Since my illustration style has significantly developed since my first Kickstarter and tarot deck in 2019, I knew it was time to do these witches the utmost justice.

Not only has my style evolved but my understanding of witches and the nuances of tarot reading has too - which is why I am releasing the all-new Minor Arcana cards.

I have chosen my coven carefully.

All of the witches’ stories pair perfectly with the art of tarot as they represent the cards' meanings so compellingly.

Take Slavic folklore’s Baba Yaga, who represents Temperance. The witch has opposing sides to her story; some describe her as a guardian of forests while others deem her a hunter who preys on lost children who get lost in her woods.

Temperance represents the notion of seeking control and balance in one’s life, practising self-restraint in order to avoid disruption.

I’m forever inspired by strong women and non-binary folks; they’re heavily featured in my artwork. Of course, witches have a special place in my heart too.

So many witches have varying interpretations and stories because, historically, society mistreats these beings. Whom an ‘evil hag’ is to one, a powerful character of empowerment they are to another.

The nature of tarot cards is a nuanced one. A deck of them can allow the reader to channel their divine power and obtain an accurate reading - rather than being the source.

In using these famous witches, their stories can influence your own and give you a fresh perspective on the cards’ meanings.
